Part
of Sommacampagna, Custoza is a
small town rich in memories of the Risorgimento.
Two battles were fought here; we can find testimony
of these battles in the monuments that were erected:
the cascina of the Sardinian drummer, the memorial
to the grenadiers of the Sardinian Brigade and the
memorial to the Cavalchina.
The
Ossuary, which houses a small museum,
collects the remains of many Italian and Austrian
soldiers. On top of a hill lies the seventeenth-century
Villa Pignatti Morano, once home to the Counts Ottolini.
The Villa presents two facades: one towards the
town of Custoza, with the bronze coat of arms of
the Ottolini, and one towards the town of Villafranca,
with the marble coat of arms of the Pignatti Morano.
Very
noteworthy is the seventeenth-century Villa
Pignatti Morano, once home to the Counts
Ottolini. Next to it is the farmer’s house,
curious seventeenth-century building with pigeon
tower. The Villa has two facades: one towards the
town of Custoza, with the frontal bronze coat of
arms of the Ottolini, and one towards the town of
Villafranca, with the marble coat of arms of the
Pignatti Morano.
