It
is the second town in the province of Verona. To
notice there is the castle, at the end of Corso
Vittorio Emanuele, it dates back to the Della Scala
period. It was set on fire by Ezzelino da Romano,
it underwent the domination of the Della Scala Family
who built the parade ground. It was besieged by
Galeazzo Gonzaga and, in 1483, was sacked by the
soldiers of Ludovico il Moro. It was conquered by
Venice and the tower of the castle became a prison
for the Jews.
There
are few artistic beauties but all of great value,
for example the churches of St Rocco, Della Disciplina
(XV century) in Corso Vittorio Emanuele, St Pietro
and Paolo that follows the structure of the
Redentore's in Venice designed by Palladio, St Giovanni
della Paglia, then the monastery of Capuchins and
Palazzo Bottagiso.
Corso
Vittorio Emanuele is
the main road where it is given an antiques market
one day a month.
